Random Obsessions: III

Featured

Oh my goodness, another month has begun! Seriously, where does the time go? May was great, and I know June is going to be just as fun–and just as busy. Many birthdays this month and many events–including the New Kids on the Block, Boys II Men, 98 Degrees concert!!

I know I’ve totally been slacking with my blogging lately–I’ve changed my post-a-day widget to a post-a-week! (*gasps dramatically*) This is because of obsession #1: Querying, Editing, Networking, and Research. Obsession #2 is my couch–it’s amazing, and #3 is getting fit and healthy for my wedding which is only 6 months away!!! (*gasps dramatically… again*)20130604-201845.jpg

So after finishing my novel, I immediately typed up a query letter and sent it out. I got a bit carried away, I think, and sent them too early. Since receiving a few rejections, I’ve improved my query letter and am Continue reading

Chasing Time

Featured

May has been the craziest month of the year thus far, with two birthdays, me finishing my novel and not knowing what to do with myself, and all of the random miscellaneous things we decided to do this month–like change the laundry schedule (which didn’t work) and cleaning out our garage (which was fairly productive; phase 2 commences June 1).

I’ve noticed that since college, my life has become more crazy, and with each day comes less and less time to do everything that needs to be done. I also literally got pregnant the month of my college graduation so I’m not sure who’s the time bandit–is it ending college and starting my career, or having a baby?20130525-091736.jpg

I’m going to go with having a baby. Continue reading

Random Obsessions: II

May, only one of the best months of the year (if not the best), is here, and with another month comes another set of Random Obsessions (read the first here). My Birthday (and being a Taurus), Grilled Cheeses, and Sleep Calculators seem to be topping the list of my May obsessions.

May, in general, is an amazing month–the month of the Taurus’, the month of Mother’s day, the month of Memorial Day Weekend, the month of prom and graduations for many people, and let’s not forget it’s the month of my birthday!

20130503-132344.jpgI found a board on Pinterest that has way too many Taurus one-liners, and I’m so obsessed with them. I love being stubborn and persistent–it helps in chasing my dreams of becoming an author. My fierce attitude problem also helps Continue reading

2-4-6-8 How Many Kids Should We Create?

Lately, I’ve been having a dilemma regarding how many kids is the perfect amount. This is obviously subjective, and every thought on this will be extremely biased–which is just what I want!

When I was younger, I would say that I wanted six kids. Then, I became pregnant and brought it down to four. Now, one and a half years after my baby is born, I’m considering having just two! Everyone told me this would happen. The problem is, two just seems so normal–or, is it just perfect?

1 Sad Week for America, 24 Things to Smile About

For Americans, it has been a really hard week. I found it extremely difficult to blog because of the gloom that was hanging over this nation for so many days. Thankfully, last night the second suspect of the Boston Marathon bombings was apprehended, and hope started to fill the hearts of the people in Boston, as well as the nation as a whole. However, none of us have forgotten about the tragedy in Texas, and our thoughts and prayers are still with the victims of both of these horrific events.

In the wake of the multiple tragedies that have occurred, I’d like to take a moment to think about things that bring a smile to my face. Though there are millions more, I chose 24 because I’ll be turning 25 in less than one month, so I’m embracing the number 24 as often as I can before I officially

There’s Only One Thing to Write About Today

Every day we wake up like normal, some days we have stupid arguments or annoying situations, some days are awesome and fun, then some days are like this.

The world stops. Nothing is important anymore, except time spent with our loved ones–especially our children. People ask, “What is the world coming to?” And I wonder, has it always been like this, or is it really becoming more violent?

The most recent tragedies that stick out for me are the shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. And then we have today; the bombing at the Boston Marathon. Innocent people are taken too soon, for no reason. It’s heart wrenching to say the very least.

I saw a video of the bombing that showed chaos–people running everywhere, scared. I saw a man running with a baby in his arms. I heard that a three-year-old was rushed to the hospital with severe burns. Over one hundred people injured, several of which had to have amputations. They were there to celebrate, to have a good time, and this is what happens.20130415-215920.jpg

At first, we are shocked, then we are horrified and saddened by the images, then we become angry and ask why. It was supposed to be a great day for so many people. I have many friends who run marathons, and I know how exciting it is for them. To be so excited and then to have this horror unfold is tragic.

I also heard that an eight-year-old girl was one of the three Continue reading

I Have the Wedding Crazies

So I was MIA this weekend (sorry Post a Day for not sticking to my word), but it’s because I was in full-fledged wedding mode; not my wedding (yet), but the wedding of two very good friends.

In honor of their wedding, and in true Alexis-fashion,

Easter Getty

Our Easter getty went great! We had about eleven of our closest family members come over to celebrate with us. Of course, one family member was noticeably missing–my grandmother, who passed this January–so our party did have a note of bitter-sweetness to it. All of our annual get-togethers will be like this because it is the very first year that we are celebrating anything without her.

Many of the ideas, decorations, and traditions that we have came from my grandmother. She was always a great host, and I strive to be like her in that way–and in many ways, actually. I pride myself on being a good host as well, and if someone calls me Martha Stewart, Continue reading
