I Have the Wedding Crazies

So I was MIA this weekend (sorry Post a Day for not sticking to my word), but it’s because I was in full-fledged wedding mode; not my wedding (yet), but the wedding of two very good friends.

In honor of their wedding, and in true Alexis-fashion,

Easter Nails

As you’ll notice, I like to paint each nail different–especially for holidays. I left the solid colors for a few days just because I thought it looked cute. Then I added my decorations.

Scotch tape is my best friend when I’m doing my nails all crazy. I cut skinny strips of tape for the blue and purple design, then just painted over them and peeled the tape off. For the chick and egg design, I cut the tape in a jagged pattern (I needed to restock my white polish so I used a french manicure color and the egg is hard to see). I used a black nail polish pen for the eyes and a wood stick cuticle pusher dipped in orange polish for the nose.

For the carrot, I initially used tape then added a little more polish to the edges so that they weren’t so harsh. I then took the wooden stick and added green leaves.

I also used the polish-dipped, wooden nail sticks to make the dots on my thumb and pinky. Once it was fairly dry, I finished up with a top coat and that’s it!

Five Reasons You Need Red in Your Closet

  1. Marriage Equality – I will start this off with the issue at hand. Today people will wear red in support of gay marriage, as it lands before the Supreme Court this morning and could either be monumental and historical, or it could be bleak, leaving many of us still shaking our heads. I’m a proud republican, and I am also a proud supporter of gay marriage. A great quote I read today came 20130326-111539.jpgfrom Republican Nicole Wallace, “There is not any place in the Constitution that allows for a different set of rules for a different class of people.” I do not want to delve into politics too much on my blog, but I will say Continue reading

Don’t Leave Home without your Face

Many women around the country are often found leaving the house with no makeup. Some claim that they don’t have time. Others will argue that you don’t need makeup to be beautiful–to which I completely agree! However, light, natural makeup will give you a fresh, healthy glow. Often it can magically make you appear well-rested even when you’re not (new moms, do you hear me?). You look great without makeup, but you will look better with it. It’s not complicated, nor is it time consuming; it’s just fabulous. In 5 minutes you will enhance your natural beauty. Continue reading

Good Scents

Have you ever walked through the mall when suddenly, an enchanted aroma happens to sneak it’s way to your nose? For that one moment, however short, your mind is nowhere except where that scent takes you. A great scent can stop you in your tracks, allowing you to seize that moment. Often, you are even enticed to verbalize the sheer enjoyment which the scent has brought. Someone smells good!

Apart from simply being pleasant, a perfume or cologne can act as a time machine, transporting you to a very specific time and place, or reminding you of a specific person. When a scent triggers a memory, that memory is much more vivid than it would be without the aroma. Continue reading

My Size Jewelry Box

Before I obtained this amazing piece of furniture (compliments of my grandmother, who bought it for me last Christmas), all of my jewelry and accessories were stored in about 3 small plastic boxes that had monotonous square compartments. For so many years, this embarrassing attempt at organizing my jewelry is how I did it–hey, at least I tried.

I’m an accessory-crazed organize-freak, so a jewelry box of this stature not only looks good, it is necessary.  Continue reading

I Am My Shoes

I think everyone has something in their life that represents who they are. Lady Gaga, for example, has a song called “Hair” where she sings,

“I am my hair… I’m as free as my hair”.

For me, my shoes are my identity. I’m as free as my shoes! Continue reading
