My Size Jewelry Box

Before I obtained this amazing piece of furniture (compliments of my grandmother, who bought it for me last Christmas), all of my jewelry and accessories were stored in about 3 small plastic boxes that had monotonous square compartments. For so many years, this embarrassing attempt at organizing my jewelry is how I did it–hey, at least I tried.

I’m an accessory-crazed organize-freak, so a jewelry box of this stature not only looks good, it is necessary.  Continue reading

Spooked

There’s something about getting scared that is enjoyable–only if we’re actually safe, though. There’s nothing cool about getting scared for real! Spooky movies, spooky shows, and spooky books all give us the opportunity to get ‘fun-scared’, as I like to call it. Whether it’s aliens, ghosts, or vampires, we are obsessed with the supernatural (at least, I am)! Save the Spoons

I was reading Snotting Black’s blogpost, who led me to The Write Practice. On that site, there was a writing exercise for us to practice our writing. The challenge was to write a funny story about spoons in 200 words and in 15 minutes. Although it’s a bit longer than 200 words, and took me longer than 15 minutes to write, I think my story is still super silly and funny. Here’s my practice:

“Save the Spoons”

At the crack of dawn, I make my coffee. I go to the drawer where we keep our scarce supply of silverware, and grab for a spoon. WHERE ARE THE SPOONS?! I nearly have a heart attack before I realize that all of the spoons must be sitting in the dishwasher; used and left to rot in their own filth until I decide to decontaminate them out of their wretchedness.

I choose a lucky spoon, Continue reading

Make it Count

Out with friends, you’re having a great night–partying, dancing, socializing. Then in the bathroom, your brand new iPhone just happens to fall into the toilet. There goes your perfectly good night. The expression all’s well that ends well holds true. Consequently, all is not well that does not end well. Continue reading

It’s an Everyday Thing

As I walk out of my apartment, I glance at my watch–only 2 minutes behind. I walk through the humidity, jump into my shiny red beetle, and blast the AC (because even at 7am in South Florida it’s disgustingly hot).

I’m on the phone when suddenly I hear this thunderous sound which startles me to the point that my iPhone flies out of my hand and onto the floor by my feet. A motorcycle zooming by. Gets me Every. Single. Time!

Luckily (well, actually un-luckily) I’m in traffic that has Kendall Drive looking like a parking lot, so I don’t have much trouble getting my phone back. As I finished up my daily phone calls, I start thinking about what to do next. Continue reading

I Am My Shoes

I think everyone has something in their life that represents who they are. Lady Gaga, for example, has a song called “Hair” where she sings,

“I am my hair… I’m as free as my hair”.

For me, my shoes are my identity. I’m as free as my shoes! Continue reading

Inspired

I was inspired to create a blog by one of my best friends, Amanda. A blog is something I’ve considered for a while, but I never had a good topic. My other blogger friends have some kind of event in their life that they’re writing about—being engaged, studying abroad, biking cross country (you know who you are and you inspired me too!), but I don’t have a specific occasion. I could gear my blog towards being a new mom–but even with how amazing it is to be a mom, everyone does it (well, most do) so my stories would only be the ‘been-there-done-that’ stories of someone else. I could make a blog about my journey to become a CPA–but seriously, there’s nothing exciting there; who wants to hear all about my studying?!! Not me. So I basically gave up the idea until Amanda inspired me.

Inspiration can be regarded as the key to the door where your talent and imagination are being held. It unlocks your creativity and triggers your mind into action. For some (like me), it is everywhere. This isn’t always a good thing because it means I want to do way too many things and there are just not enough hours in the day! For others, being inspired is a rare occurrence, however, once it strikes, the results are often amazing. I believe inspiration is most evident in musicians and artists, but for those of us with too much of it and no musical or artistic talent, blogging has created an outlet where we can unleash our creativity into the world!

I’m fairly certain that every single song made has inspired at least one person–the same goes with every single piece of art. One of the circles of life is inspiration: The artist has been inspired, and the work of art inspires others–often coming back to inspire the artist again like a boomerang . It’s a beautiful and intricate cycle.

Lady Gaga is a huge inspiration for me. Whether you like her style or not, there’s no denying she’s one of the greatest artists of our time. Many critique her extreme outfits and claim that all she wants is attention; however, what she’s really seeking is to inspire others. Her outfits are not meant to be worn to your cousin’s wedding, they are a form of art. Every outfit begins from an inspiration, is well thought out, and is intended to make a statement! Further, she’s got a great message: To be yourself, go after your dreams, and fight for what you believe in. There’s always going to be haters, but that should never stop you!

You don’t have to be so famous to inspire many. Inspiration can come from anyone or anything at any time. It’s comparable to fate (but that’s a whole other topic–and potential blog post! ;-) ). The internet, and social media in general, has made it so easily accessible. For example, Pinterest has become a great place where creative minds can inspire other creative minds–or even bring out the creativity in someone who thought they had none. Etsy is another pretty awesome site where us easily-inspired people can unleash our creative juices, get ideas, and make (or spend) money! With so many artistic ideas and clever DIYs, the possibilities are endless–just like with art and music!

I always thought that if you wanted to create a blog, you had to have a specific focus. Even WordPress tells you to have a defined topic. Well, Amanda created a blog without such a strong niche, and made me realize that you can write about anything you want! She’s such a rebel, and so am I. That’s why we’re friends ;-) Anyways, the point is that sometimes we need a push in life, something that ignites the fuse of imagination and creativity, and which propels us into action. Inspiration is the lighter.

I guess you could say that I do have a specific theme to my blog: inspiration. I will write about whatever I’m inspired to write about. With so many interests, it’s bound to be a wide variety of topics. I’m a girl of many words and many thoughts who wants to entertain the world with them! Inspiration is one of the greatest things in life. Whatever inspires you, embrace it, act on it, then inspire others.
